We don't hear about Russiagate anymore for the same reason we don't hear about new details about Watergate or Iran-Contra. That it resulted in a measly 34 indictments and 9 criminal convictions is the same reason that Gaddafi and Idi Amin were never convicted of any crimes.

The crimes were there, well documented and revealed in public. The US president, in a recorded, call used official government power to assist him in interfering in an election for him to maintain power, but the jury was stacked so that he simply could not be convicted. Even with an investigative body led by people who were explicitly loyal to him over the rule of law, enough evidence was still found to convict numerous aides and officials in his cabinet.

To insist that there was nothing there is akin to the naivete of a police officer following a trail of blood to a front door, hearing screams of torture inside the house and then turn promptly away when the blood soaked owner assures him that "there's nothing to see here".

So, yes-it's perfectly reasonable for folks like that naive police officer to simply accept that Covid is fake because a figure on a white horse says "nah, it's cool. Nothing to worry about here". For the rest of us who understand causal relationships, we can tell the difference between when the media is reporting on something somewhat accurately and when a vested interest seeks to muddy the waters for personal gain.
